Longing and Lace

There is something about lace that reminds one of bygone days. The white door with its curtain of lace, the abandoned motel with tattered lace in the window, the bathroom with its lacy patterns of light. My old sampler reads: “When the well is dry we know the worth of water.” The bleached animal skulls speak to the passage of time. Lace is about longing for what has been lost … youth, love, a time of life that is now out of reach.
